Cecilia Khamis crowned South Sudan Female Boxing Champion after beating experienced pugilist Babra Lam Palviano at Juba’s Jebel Boxing Centre
Cecilia Khamis is the Champion of the today’s fight challange against Babra Lam Palviano
Champion Cecilia won this fighting battle in the boxing event which was organized as a way to challange Gender Norms through Sports as stated in their theme.
On his part, the technical director at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Peter Baptist Abaker appreciated UNFPA south Sudan for their efforts which they continued support to the youth, especially the girl-child who previously could not partake in sports, such as boxing.
The jam-packed boxing federation hall attracted spectators from all walks of life including the physically challenged.
However Cecilicia Khamis expressed her feelings after being decleared as the boxing winner in their fight ”iam happy to be the winner because i can’t believe that i made it through fighting great fighter Babra.”
Champion Khamis further told the reporters that today’s success in her fight is just the begining of a long way, more fights and more achivements to come alone them so i want to thank my fans not forgeting the event sponsors.
On his part, UNFPA country rep Dr. Ademola Alajide, calls on the community members to use sports as an imoortant activity which changes Gender Norms. He further said ”one hand can’t unless you use two hands to clap and hear sound meaning that the every society needs equality in develop so we therefore challange Gender Norms through sports.”
On her part Babra said I have tried my level best to prove it to her, but unfortunately The judgement didn’t worked out on my Favour, Next time I will bounce back more stronger than this, .
She the parents to allow their kids their kids to Join any type of sports in the country, so it will be Gate pass for them in the future
The two engaged in a thrilling four-round battle, with the judge deciding the winner based solely on Cecilia’s actions rather than the spectators.
The long-awaited day came to pass as Cecilia Khamis won over her opponent Barbra Lam in a 12-minute bout in the fourth round to win the fight, she was elated and said, such bouts provide an opportunity to prepare the South Sudanese female boxers to fight on an international stage.
