CEPO Applauds Resumption of Tumaini Initiative Mediation in Nairobi
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has expressed strong support for the relaunch of the Tumaini Initiative mediation process, which officially resumed today after a two-month hiatus. The second phase of the mediation is being held in Nairobi, and CEPO’s Executive Director, Mr. Edmund Yakani, welcomed this development, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to ensuring its success.
“This is an impressive step forward, and we are pleased to witness the official launch of the second phase of the Tumaini Initiative mediation,” Mr. Yakani noted. “Our long advocacy and lobbying efforts demanding the government delegation’s participation have paid off. It is now our responsibility to make sure this initiative does not fail and delivers peace before the end of December 2024.”
Mr. Yakani underscored the critical role of South Sudan’s leadership and delegates involved in the mediation. He urged them to prioritize peace and stability and to avoid any delays or excuses that could hinder progress. “The politics of looting public revenue and harming citizens must come to an end,” he declared. “We need to adopt and enforce successful transitional processes to pave the way for a better future.”
Additionally, CEPO is calling on all delegates involved in the Tumaini Initiative to shift their political attitudes—from championing violence to advocating for peace and stability. Mr. Yakani emphasized that a collective effort is necessary to foster an environment conducive to lasting change.
In a separate statement, CEPO reflected on valuable lessons learned during multiple opportunities in China. Mr. Yakani remarked on the positive experiences of rural revitalization and the performance of farm organizations in China. He believes these lessons could greatly benefit South Sudan’s development efforts.
“The story of China’s community development offers us essential opportunities for progress,” Mr. Yakani noted. “South Sudanese should take the initiatives offered by the Chinese government seriously and translate the knowledge and skills gained into actionable results for the benefit of our people.”
CEPO expressed deep appreciation for China’s approach to fostering people-to-people engagement with African nations, asserting that such interactions are vital for the welfare of citizens in both Africa and China. Mr. Yakani highlighted the importance of these collaborations and encouraged continued dialogue to bolster developmental efforts in South Sudan.
As the Tumaini Initiative mediation resumes, all eyes are on South Sudan’s leaders and delegates to ensure that they seize this opportunity to bring about meaningful peace and stability in the region.
