Yekani expressed the organization’s commitment to engaging civil society representatives in scrutinizing the budgetary allocations at various levels of governance, urging the public to attend the open hearing scheduled for the 30th at the Parliament building. The initiative aims to provide a platform for stakeholders to analyze and provide feedback on the spending figures allocated to public institutions at national, state, and county levels, as well as deliberating on tax-related matters outlined in the financial bill.

Emphasizing the significance of inclusive governance, Yakani highlighted CEPO’s efforts to mobilize diverse civil society groups including youth organizations, women’s groups, media outlets, academia, think tank organizations, and faith-based leaders, to actively participate in scrutinizing the budget and proposing recommendations for the fiscal year 2024-2025.

Expressing gratitude to the leadership of the Finance Committee for facilitating this opportunity, Yakani underscored the importance of citizen-centric governance and transparent decision-making processes as integral components of a participatory democracy. He commended the collaborative efforts between government bodies, donors, development partners, and civil society organizations in working collectively to realize the objectives outlined in the budget.

With a call for collective commitment and collaboration from all stakeholders, Yakani concluded by acknowledging the estimation nature of the budget and the need for the public revenue authorities, donors, development partners, and civil society to work collaboratively to actualize the goals enshrined in the budget for the financial year 2024-2025.
