CEPO Lauds First Lady’s Embrace of Peace: A Call for Nonviolent Elections in South Sudan
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has expressed optimism following a powerful photograph of First Lady Mama Ayen Mayardit embracing Honorable Angelina Tenydit. This heartfelt moment, captured during a recent public event, has reignited hope for political stability in South Sudan as the country gears up for critical elections in December 2026.
“It’s more than just a photo; it’s a symbol of hope for our nation,” said Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO. “If our political elites actively choose to say ‘NO’ to violence and ‘YES’ to peace, the chances for a stable and prosperous South Sudan will increase significantly.”
The organization is rallying support for peaceful and credible elections, urging that the upcoming electoral processes be free from violence and any further delays. “We are calling on Mama Ayen Mayardit and Angelina Tenydit to take the lead in fostering an environment of growth and stability through genuine leadership,” Yakani added.
In a bid to enhance the role of women in peace-building discussions, CEPO is planning to facilitate dialogues involving women leaders in December 2024. “Women have the power to lead in our quest for peace. We aim to support their dialogue efforts, which will be crucial in laying the groundwork for lasting stability in the region,” Mr. Yakani emphasized.
As South Sudan continues to navigate its complex political landscape, CEPO remains committed to promoting unity and dialogue among its leaders. The organization is encouraging not only women but all citizens to champion peace efforts and contribute to a brighter future for their nation.
“The future of South Sudan relies on our collective action for peace. Let us all join hands in driving this message forward,” Mr. Yakani concluded.
