CEPO Urges Government Action Against Sale of School Land
In a passionate plea, the Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, has called upon the Governor of Central Equatoria State and the National Minister of General Education and Instruction to address the alarming issue of Supiri Secondary School’s land being sold to three private companies.
Yakani emphasized the importance of upholding the decision made by the Council of Ministers, which prohibits any tampering with land allocated for educational or health purposes.
“The violation of this decision in the sale of Supiri Secondary School’s land to private entities is unacceptable and must be stopped. Those responsible must be held accountable for their actions,” He stated.
Expressing concerns about politicians profiteering from school lands, Yakani urged for swift action to rectify the situation. He stressed the need for a decisive stance from the authorities to prevent further encroachment on lands meant for educational or health facilities.
Additionally, CEPO shared positive news from the Nairobi peace talks, praising the progress made towards a potential agreement between the government and non-signatory opposition groups. Yakani commended the commitment shown by both parties during the mediation process, highlighting the significance of dialogue in resolving political differences.
As the civil society eagerly awaits the finalization of the peace agreement, Yakani encouraged citizens to support the ongoing efforts for peace and stability in the country. He underscored the importance of inclusivity in peace mediations and called for continued engagement from various sectors of society to ensure a successful resolution.
With tensions high over the school land issue and hopes rising for a peaceful resolution through the Nairobi peace talks, all eyes are on the government and opposition leaders to navigate these critical junctures for the betterment of South Sudan.
