CES Security Authority Steps Up Efforts Against Insecurity Challenges
In a bid to enhance peace and stability in the Central Equatoria State, the security authorities have passed significant resolutions during the State’s ordinary security meeting chaired by H.E. Paulino Lukudu Obede, the Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, held at the State Secretariat in Juba.
Addressing the media following the meeting, Hon. Gerald Francis, the State Acting Minister of Information and Communication, highlighted the key security issues discussed and resolutions made to address existing challenges. These issues included the threats posed by land grabbing activities, pockets of insecurity along the border between Moyo and Kajo-Keji, incidents of car and motorbike hijackings at gunpoint in Juba, and the rising cases of suicide missions within the city.
Acknowledging the efforts of security authorities, Hon. Francis reported successes in recovering a stolen vehicle over the weekend. However, he emphasized the urgency in addressing serious incidents, such as the recent killing of three individuals in Jebel Ladu Payam due to land disputes. To combat land grabbing, a resolution was passed for the Commissioner of Juba County to relocate the headquarters to Ladu Payam, where the issue is prevalent.
Furthermore, another incident of violent land grabbing in Amadi, Juba, was noted on Tuesday morning, prompting immediate government intervention. Hon. Francis assured that the authorities have been directed to swiftly respond to such incidents to restore peace and protect citizens’ rights.
Moreover, concerns were raised regarding insecurity along the borders of Kajo-Keji and Moyo, as well as Yumbe districts of Uganda. Hon. Francis emphasized the need for collaborative efforts with neighboring districts to address shared security challenges effectively. As a result, a revisit of previous resolutions with Moyo and Yumbe was recommended by the security committee for enhanced coordination and proactive measures against insecurity.
The commitment of the CES Security Authority to tackle insecurity, protect citizens, and uphold peace in Central Equatoria State remains unwavering, as demonstrated through these decisive resolutions and actions taken to address critical security issues.
