Civil-Military Dialogue Kicks Off in Yei Town to Foster Sustainable Peace
A three-day civil-military dialogue commenced along the 5 Miles Maridi Road (Minyori), bringing together the communities of Minyori, Logo, Pisak, and Jongsuk bomas in Yei Town. Under the theme “Let Go of the Past, Build Sustainable Peace,” the event aims to identify and address issues that hinder peaceful coexistence among the civil population and organized forces.
Organized by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) in collaboration with the RSRTF consortiums, IOM, WHITAKER, UNMISS, and FCA, the dialogue convened a diverse group of participants, including government officials, senior army commanders, unit heads, chiefs, religious leaders, youth, and women.
Throughout the discussions, participants raised several pressing issues, including widespread mistrust and dishonesty in reporting rebel-related incidents. Other concerns highlighted were false accusations, torture, a lack of cooperation, looting, and incidents of sexual violence.
As the dialogue continues, stakeholders are expected to formulate key resolutions aimed at fostering trust and cooperation between the military and local communities. The final day of the event, Thursday, promises to culminate in actionable commitments to address the reported grievances and pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
