By Majur Chol Khor
The Executive Director for INTREPID South Sudan (ISS), Bol Deng Bol, expresses his appreciation to South Sudanese republican guards for finally accepting their plea to release or hand over the four Youth Activists to the Police.
Bol emphasizes that putting them under Police custody is the right thing to do and appeals to the Police to release them or produce them in a competent Court without further delay.
According to a detailed statement shared with Alhuriya this month, three youth activists, namely Mr. Bill Kur Nyiel, Mr. Bafora Santelo, and Ms. Delighty Keji, were detained on Thursday, January 4th, 2024. These individuals are employees for Junubin Chronicles, a Youth Empowerment Nongovernmental Organization based in Juba.
The news of their detention was shared in a written statement by Bol Deng Bol, Executive Director for INTREPID South Sudan (ISS), with Alhuriya.
In addition to the release of the activists, there is still concern over the disappearance of Biar Ajak Marol, a colleague of the activists, who was reported missing on October 4th, 2023, and has yet to be found.
His colleagues immediately reported his disappearance to the police, and they are now facing their second detention.
Bol Deng Bol has been appealing to Major Gen. Lual Wek Guem, the Tiger Division Commander, and President Salva Kiir Mayardit to intervene and secure the release of the detained activists. He also demands that Biar Ajak Marol be produced in court or released unconditionally.
The activists were released yesterday by the Republican Guards (Giada Tiger Military Division) and handed over to the police. Bol continues to appeal to the Police to release them or produce the Youth Activists in a competent Court without delay.
