Condemnation and Rejection of Hussein Abdelbagi’s Move to Oust Dr. Costello Garang from SSPM Chairmanship
We, the armed wing of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement/Army (SSPM/A), hereby express our unequivocal condemnation of the recent attempts by Hussein Abdelbagi Akol and his faction to unlawfully remove Dr. Costello Garang Ring Lual from his position as Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SSPM/A.
Our stance is clear: Dr. Costello Garang remains the only legitimate leader of our movement, and we reaffirm our unwavering support for his leadership. The actions taken by Hussein and his disgruntled group not only violate the principles of our constitution but also threaten the cohesion and stability of our organization.
According to Article 8 of our constitution (i, ii, iii), all members are required to adhere to the established constitutional procedures of the SSPM/A. Importantly, it is stated clearly that only the duly elected leader has the authority to convene meetings of significant importance. Attempts to remove a leader must be conducted through a formal convention, not through clandestine gatherings of a select few individuals with no legitimate standing within our party.
Hussein’s ill-fated attempt at a coup is an affront to democracy and should be condemned by all who uphold the democratic ideals we strive to instill within our movement. We stand firmly against any moves that seek to undermine democratic processes and will not tolerate actions that threaten the unity and integrity of our organization.
Furthermore, we proudly affirm our commitment to a unified South Sudan, under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is recognized as Commander-in-Chief of all armed forces. As the SSPM/A, we fully support the legitimacy of the current government and urge all members to rally behind our president as he continues to lead our nation towards peace and stability.
In conclusion, we call upon all members of the SSPM/A to remain united and resolute in our commitment to democratic principles and the leadership of Dr. Costello Garang. We will not allow any disruptions to distract us from our core mission of serving our people and building a brighter future for all South Sudanese.
