Condemnation of the Killing of Civilians and Security Forces in Yirol East County by Armed Criminals from Panyijar County, Unity State
In a tragic incident on June 19th, 2024, the peaceful village of Yinhkar in Biling Boma, Yirol East County, was struck by a group of armed criminals from Panyijar County, Unity State. The criminals, intent on stealing goats, ended up causing devastation and loss of life.
According to reports, when news of the theft reached the security forces in the area, a pursuit ensued, leading to a deadly ambush. Three security forces and three innocent civilians lost their lives in the crossfire, with two civilians left severely injured. Fortunately, the stolen goats were recovered during the operation.
Expressing outrage over the senseless violence, Hon. Paul Cabiet Ayang, Minister for ICT & Postal Services in Rumbek-Lakes State, strongly condemned the attack, calling it “heinous.” He urged the Government of Unity State to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice is served for the victims.
Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security along the borders between the two states, stressing the need for collaborative efforts to prevent such tragedies from recurring. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and reassured the community of Yirol East County that every effort would be made to bring the criminals to justice.
The call for justice and peace echoes as both Lakes State and Unity State grapple with the aftermath of this brutal assault. The hope now rests on swift action and cooperation to address the root causes of such violence and prevent future loss of life.
