Seven people, including five attackers, were killed in a cattle raid attack in Akobo County, Jonglei State, on Sunday morning.

Ten others were wounded in the attack on Thep cattle camp. The attack was carried out by Murle armed youth who are still opposing peace between the Lou Nuer and Murle communities, according to Puok Nyang Tutjiek, the Akobo County Commissioner.

The attackers came from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) and clashed with the local youth who were guarding the cattle camp. The wounded have been taken to a health facility for treatment and the situation is now calm.

Commissioner Puok appealed to the GPAA authorities to restrain their youth from carrying out such attacks and to respect the peace agreements signed between the two communities.

Abraham Keleng, the GPAA Information Minister, confirmed the incident and condemned it, stating that the GPAA government was not aware of the attack and that the Murle youth acted on their own.
