Dr. Gai Chol Paul Calls on the Economic Cluster to Avert Economic Collapse

The Chairman of the People’s United Forum,Dr. Gai Chol Paul

The Chairman of the People’s United Forum (PUF), Dr. Gai Chol Paul, is urgently appealing to the Economic Cluster in South Sudan to take decisive action to prevent a complete economic collapse in the country. Dr. Gai stresses the importance of the cluster proactively addressing the cartels responsible for diverting valuable resources for personal gain, thereby worsening the ongoing economic crisis in the nation. By implementing strict measures to combat corruption and illicit financial activities, Dr. Gai believes the Economic Cluster can play a crucial role in restoring much-needed stability and integrity to South Sudan’s economic landscape.

“It is imperative that the cluster proactively seal off the cartels that are siphoning off valuable resources for their personal gain, thereby exacerbating the economic crisis faced by the nation.”

Furthermore, Dr. Gai emphasizes the critical necessity for the Economic Cluster to enhance revenue collection efforts by improving tax compliance measures, cracking down on tax evasion, and streamlining revenue-generating processes.

He also calls for significant reductions in the daily expenses of the executive branch, advocating for streamlined expenditures and fiscal responsibility across all government levels. Dr. Paul recommends imposing strict limits on the number of vehicles allocated to high-ranking officials, such as allowing the Vice President a maximum of three vehicles and restricting ministers to two each. Additionally, he suggests halving the current fuel allocation for Vice Presidents and Ministers as a means of curbing excessive spending on luxury items like multiple vehicles, demonstrating a commitment to sound financial management, and prioritizing the welfare of South Sudanese citizens in challenging times.

Dr. Gai highlights the urgency of eliminating inefficiencies within the public sector, particularly addressing issues like multiple payments and ghost names in payrolls. These discrepancies not only deplete government financial resources but also compromise the credibility and transparency of public institutions. By streamlining payroll systems, conducting thorough audits to identify and eliminate ghost names, the Economic Cluster can significantly reduce wastage, enhance accountability, and ensure efficient allocation and utilization of public funds for national development.

Moreover, Dr. Paul underscores the necessity of implementing robust mechanisms to prevent future malpractices, including establishing stringent verification processes for all employees, enhancing oversight of payroll activities, and holding accountable those involved in fraudulent practices. He urges citizens to raise their voices amidst the deepening economic crisis and looming famine threat in South Sudan, emphasizing that humanitarian agencies can only provide aid if made aware of the situation. Dr. Gai encourages solidarity among citizens to demand government action addressing the root causes of the economic crisis. By voicing concerns and calling for urgent intervention, sustainable solutions can be implemented to alleviate immediate suffering and pave the way for long-term economic stability and prosperity.

In conclusion, Dr. Paul asserts that it is time for citizens to break their silence and demand the economic assistance they urgently require. The Chairman believes that through unified action and advocacy, South Sudanese citizens can bring about positive change and secure a brighter economic future for their nation.

“The time for silence is over; it is time for the citizens to speak up and demand the economic rescue they so desperately need,” Dr. Paul said.
