Governor Jadalla Champions Agricultural Growth During Visit to Carnak Tobacco Factory in Yei

H.E. Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, the State Governor, paid a courtesy visit to the Carnak South Sudan (CSS) tobacco factory on Thursday. The visit aimed to familiarize the Governor and his delegation with the factory’s production processes and operations.

Speaking to journalists after the visit, Hon. Wani Tom Sebit, the State Minister of Trade and Industry, underscored the importance of the Governor’s engagement with local industries. “The Governor’s visit was an opportunity to understand the operations of the factory, which has diversified its investments beyond cigarette production to tap into agricultural ventures,” he explained.

Hon. Tom highlighted Carnak South Sudan’s commitment to agriculture, noting that the factory has established various agricultural projects, including the cultivation of maize, cassava, and cash crops like cocoa. “We encourage our citizens to consider cocoa production, as it can provide a valuable source of income,” he said.

Jean Pierre Samputu, General Manager of Carnak South Sudan, expressed his gratitude for the Governor’s visit, describing it as a testament to the collaborative efforts between investors and the government. “Such visits are vital as they help address challenges facing investment opportunities, especially concerning issues like insecurity,” Pierre stated.

He shared insights into the factory’s production capabilities, revealing that despite aging machinery, the factory manages to produce between 500 to 600 cartons of cigarettes daily. Additionally, Pierre noted the factory’s export activities, mentioning that their products reach markets in Congo, Chad, and Central Africa. “The market for our products is not a problem,” he affirmed.

Carnak South Sudan, located in Yei River County, is not just a tobacco factory; it’s evolving into a multi-faceted agricultural enterprise, recently venturing into seedling production, including cocoa and mangoes. This diversification reflects a growing trend in South Sudan to integrate agricultural development into industrial operations, presenting new economic opportunities for local communities.

Governor Jadalla’s visit signifies a proactive approach toward fostering sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing investment prospects in the region, aiming to pave the way for a more prosperous future for Central Equatoria State.
