Speaking on behalf of the council, H.W Flora Modi acknowledged the economic hardships faced by the city but assured that the leadership, in collaboration with the councilors, directors, and advisors, will do their best to boost revenue collections and fulfill their mandate as the City Council.
The City Council’s policy statement outlines its vision and socio-economic foundation, emphasizing the development of strong institutions and administrative systems to facilitate council programs.
The council’s primary role is to promote and encourage the socio-economic development of committees within Juba City, focusing on actions and infrastructure related to social services, such as the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, and street lighting. Additionally, the council aims to address unauthorized structures built on reserved lands and improve environmental and waste management, financial management, and the security and safety of the city.
Chairperson of the Juba City Legislative Council, Hon. Councilor Dina Keji John, also expressed concerns about inadequate funding for legislative activities and delays in receiving sitting allowances. She emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment in the meeting hall that reflects the significance of the City Hall and the allocated budget for its furnishing.
