Lake State Deputy Governor Visits Western Equatoria State to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

In a diplomatic move aimed at fostering closer ties between Lake State and Western Equatoria State, Dr. Isaiah Akol Mathiang, the Deputy Governor of Lake State-Rumbek, arrived in Yambio on Wednesday. The visit marks a significant step towards addressing long standing issues and promoting mutual benefit between the two states.

Upon his arrival, Dr. Mathiang, a member of the opposition (IO), highlighted the importance of resolving conflicts between cattle keepers and farmers in Western Equatoria State. He expressed his desire to facilitate discussions on enabling Lake State’s cattle business community to operate peacefully within Western Equatoria State.

“I came to Western Equatoria State today to build a relationship with Governor Futuyo and his administration. Our goal is to strengthen ties, particularly regarding cattle trade, and ensure peaceful coexistence,” Dr. Mathiang stated.

Governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba of Western Equatoria warmly welcomed the delegation from Lake State, praising the visit as a positive step towards cooperation.

 “This gesture signifies peace and unity, laying the foundation for enhanced collaboration at our borders,” Governor Futuyo remarked.

Acknowledging the ongoing challenges faced by Western Equatoria State due to conflicts between cattle herders and farmers in various counties, Governor Futuyo reiterated his commitment to finding solutions and emphasized the need for cooperation from pastoralists.

The visit of Deputy Governor Mathiang symbolizes a renewed commitment to dialogue and collaboration between the authorities of Lake State and Western Equatoria State. Stakeholders are hopeful that this diplomatic effort will lead to sustainable solutions to longstanding challenges and pave the way for a harmonious partnership between the two states.
