Mathiang ‘Lying’ Jalap Dongrin

By Tearz Ayuen

You auctorially and politically farted when you claimed — in your commentary recently published in The Dawn daily — that Bor Town was nothing until the incumbent governor assumed office in July 2020.

First of all, I understand the SPLM government has beaten youth into sycophancy and ‘uncle-ism’ – making most sing the “Bab ja…le le” children’s song in order to survive. So, I understand the motive behind the article.

But since Governor Denay Jock took over, Bor has been in a leadership free fall, probably partly because he seems uninterested in the gubernatorial job.

Denay – who came back from America with nothing but lots of hair on his head and snake-inspired English accent – found himself in Bor by surprise.

Yes. A political ‘nyarkuk’, Denay was dumped in Jonglei after the peace parties realized that he was incapable of running the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology?

Due to incompetency, indifference, naìvety, and emotionalism, Denay made himself the ceremonial governor of Jonglei.

He literally lives in Juba, where he hides from his responsibilities. The man only visits Bor to witness new state officials take oath of office. That’s it.

This came after he set up a kleptomaniac system that siphons taxpayers’ money to Juba to finance his lifestyle, characterized by binge drinking and broads.

The John Frog-like lifestyle is funded by the Jonglei State resources through the state revenue authority, where his brother Thia Jock Chagor is the director general.

Just last month, Denay had Dr Barnaba Marial, the minister of presidential affairs, force Chief Justice Chan Reec to unfreeze the Jonglei revenue authority bank account…so that the governor could withdraw as much as he wanted.

While enjoying himself in the city, his state, and to repeat myself, is in leadership free fall. Denay has no strategic plan for the state. He is just awaiting dismissal, in peace.

In the meantime, juvenile crime is unstoppable. Teenage boys hack to death victims over phones and cash.

There is a general toxic atmosphere at workplaces. That’s why some junior officials probably find it difficult to accord him respect. And in reprisal, Denay uses J1-backed powers to replace those who point out his weaknesses. The last Speaker is an example.

Over 3,300 teachers on government payroll have not received their November and December salaries.

And the intercommunal violence is at its peak. Jonglei youth attacked Pibor on Christmas Eve, leaving nearly 100 dead and 30,000 displaced.

Murle youth on Tuesday returned the ‘favor’ by killing at least 12 people in Uror County.

Therefore, praising Governor Denay not only mocks the residents of Bor and Jonglei at large, but also makes you a laughing stock among your peers, Mr “senior political commentator”.
