In a groundbreaking move for the South Sudan Premier League, the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) has secured a substantial sponsorship of $300,000 from telecommunications giant MTN South Sudan. The announcement was made on Monday, setting the stage for an exciting new era in football for the nation.*

The funding will support the inaugural season of the Premier League, which is set to kick off on December 21, 2024, featuring fourteen clubs from across the country. SSFA President Gen. Austin Madout emphasized the significance of the league as a historical milestone for South Sudan, remarking, “This premier league represents not just sports but a unifying force for our nation.”

In his remarks, Madout highlighted the manifold benefits of sports, urging clubs to embrace the spirit of teamwork, health, and unity. “Football promotes professionalism among players and fosters a sense of community, bringing together different nations as one family,” he said. He also encouraged MTN and the SSFA to collaborate continuously to elevate sports in South Sudan.

MTN Chief Executive Officer Ali Monzer echoed this sentiment, advocating for more teams to join the league in order to enrich the country’s sporting landscape. “We urge both local and international players to join our clubs,” Monzer stated. “MTN is committed to supporting SSFA in promoting sports in South Sudan, reinforcing our identity as a leading African telecommunications network.”

As an established telecommunications leader in over nineteen African countries since 1994, Monzer reaffirmed MTN’s dedication to empowering communities through sports, stating, “We are from Africa, and we are African.”

This substantial investment marks a pivotal moment in South Sudan’s sporting history, fueling hopes for a thriving football culture that could inspire unity and excellence across the nation.
