MTN South Sudan’s Generous Donation Brightens Eid for Female Inmates in Juba Prison and Hospital Patients

In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity and support, MTN South Sudan has extended a helping hand to the vulnerable in the society by donating essential items worth ten million South Sudanese pounds. The donation, made to the female inmates at Juba Central Prison and patients at Giada Military Hospital, includes a range of much-needed supplies such as sanitary pads, food items, soaps, and soft drinks.

Mayor Moses Angona, the chief of corporate affairs at MTN, expressed the company’s commitment to giving back to the community, stating, “This donation is part of our Eid al-Fitr offer to the beneficiaries. We are honored to join the management of Juba Central Prison in celebrating Eid with the female prisoners.”

The collaborative effort between MTN and the prison leadership was highly praised, with Major General Anthony Oliver Legge, the deputy director of Juba Central Prison, thanking MTN for their unwavering support. He commended the company for extending love and assistance to the female inmates, highlighting the significance of their contribution beyond their usual network services.

Incarcerated individuals like Reglin Juma, a Kenyan national serving a 10-year sentence at Juba Central Prison, expressed gratitude for the donation, emphasizing the impact it will have on the female inmates. Juma acknowledged the challenges faced by inmates, including financial constraints to support their families, and called for continued support from benefactors.

Addressing concerns of mistreatment, Juma reassured the public that the female inmates are respected and cared for within the prison. She dispelled any misconceptions by affirming, “We are not being intimidated; they respect us a lot.”

Dr. Eluzai Hakim, the medical director of Giada Military Hospital, lauded MTN for their generosity and emphasized the invaluable assistance provided to the hospital’s patients. Despite facing challenges such as power outages and drug shortages, Dr. Hakim urged other companies and NGOs to follow MTN’s example and support those in need within the healthcare sector.
