Nairobi Peace Talks: R-TGONU Responds to Non-Signatories with Calm and Consultative Approach

In a display of diplomacy and cooperation, the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGONU) is engaging in fruitful discussions at the Nairobi peace talks today. The government is responding thoughtfully to the positions of non-signatories to the R-ARCSS and other stakeholders, aligning their responses with the provisions of the R-ACRSS.

The dialogue, mediated by the Kenyan government, exudes a spirit of calmness and consultation among all parties involved. The thematic areas being addressed include governance, security, justice, and economic issues, with a focus on evaluating the implementation of the R-ACRSS across all chapters and provisions.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO, expressed optimism about the outcome of the peace talks, emphasizing the importance of steering clear of political confrontation in negotiations. He stressed the need for a shift in political attitudes among elites to facilitate productive mediation.

Yakani’s expectations for the Nairobi peace talks include reaching political consensus on crucial aspects such as constitutional governance, security arrangements, transitional justice, and economic reforms. In a bid for inclusivity, he urged the Kenya mediation to involve key figures like 1st Lt. Gen. Simon Gatwech of SPLA/M-IO and Gen. Thomas Cirilo of NAS, highlighting the effectiveness of an inclusive approach.

Moreover, Yakani called upon the country’s political leadership to embrace the principles of peace and reconciliation by releasing detained activists and lifting imposed conditions, paving the way for genuine progress towards a constitutional arrangement that will lead the nation from violence to lasting peace.

As discussions continue in Nairobi, the hope is that genuine agreements will be reached, heralding a significant step towards transitioning the country from conflict to stability. The success of these peace talks hinges on cooperation, inclusivity, and a shared commitment to forging a peaceful future for all.
