Nimule Immigration Office in Dire Need of Urgent Upgrades

By Majur Chol Khor

The working conditions at the Nimule immigration office, located at the South Sudan-Uganda border, have come under scrutiny as the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) highlights the unfair and stressful environment faced by immigration officers.

The organization blames the political leadership, the Directorate of Immigration in the National Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Finance Planning for not prioritizing the improvement of the office building to meet required standards.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO, expressed his concern over the poor conditions faced by immigration officers in Nimule.

“The working conditions for our immigration officers in Nimule are total stressful and unfair for the dedicated sons and daughters of South Sudan working as immigration officers,” Said Yakani.

The revenue generated from Nimule should be sufficient to address these issues, and it is disheartening to see the immigration office building failing to project a positive image of the country.

“The conditions of the immigration office building, working materials/equipment, and human resources require immediate attention and intervention from the leadership in Juba.”

CEPO is calling upon the President to intervene and address the situation at the Nimule Immigration Office. They believe that the office’s poor conditions reflect poorly on the nation’s image and demonstrate a lack of concern for the improvement of working conditions for dedicated immigration officers.

“We are taking this opportunity with due respect and honor for H.E. President Kiir to intervene on the situation of the Nimule Immigration Office working conditions.”

The organization also urges the Minister of Interior, the Police IGP, and the Director of Immigration to visit the office and witness the conditions firsthand.

In addition, CEPO is appealing to national parliamentarians to visit the Nimule Immigration Office during their recess and assess the working conditions of the immigration officers.

The organization emphasizes the urgent need for improvement, considering the significant revenue generated at the Nimule border post on a daily basis.

It is hoped that these calls for action will prompt the necessary interventions and improvements to create a more conducive and efficient working environment for immigration officers at the Nimule Immigration Office.
