Opposition Parties Form a Coalition to Monitor Peace Implementation

On November 11, 2022, four South Sudanese non-violent political parties in South Sudan formed a major coalition to empower South Sudanese to pressure the R-TGoNU to implement peace as per the agreement. Transform South Sudan politics from violence, intimidation, and blackmail to a peaceful, smart, and strategic competition. Build an inclusive free political space in South Sudan. Establish a political alliance among the opposition parties in South Sudan.

The political parties that formed an alliance include the People’s United Forum (PUF), the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), and the African People’s Congress (APC). The new opposition alliance formed by the four parties is called the Coalition of Opposition Parties (COOP). The COOP Chairman is Dr. Gai Chol Paul (PUF), the Deputy Chairman is Adv. Gabriel Kuot Akok (PPP), the Secretary is Deng-bil William Aguer (APC), and the Spokesperson is Deng Bol Aruai (NDA).

The COOP is made up of non-violent parties that are not part of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) and are within South Sudan. Since the signatories to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) have colluded to derail the implementation of the peace agreement for their gain without considering the suffering of the people of South Sudan, the COOP was formed as the body that will act on behalf of the people of South Sudan to engage the National Transitional Council (NTC) and the individual parties that are signatories to the R-ARCSS.
