Political Parties Express Concern Over Arbitrary Allocation of Resources for Pre-election Activities
In a recent press statement addressing the arbitrary allocation of resources for pre-election activities, political parties have raised concerns over the unfair distribution of funds to relevant institutions.
According to Hon. Chairperson of the Political Parties Council (PPC), Vy Eze Radit, “It has come to our attention that necessary resources meant for electoral processes have not been adequately allocated to key institutions involved in the upcoming elections.”
The PPC revealed that several crucial institutions including the National Constitutional Review Commission (NCRC), the National Electoral Commission (NEC), and the National Transitional Committee have not received the full funding they require to effectively carry out their duties.
The PPC highlighted discrepancies in the allocation of funds, citing examples such as the PPC receiving only USD 16.3 million out of the requested USD 60 million, and the NEC receiving USD 22.2 million out of the targeted USD 30 million.
Expressing disappointment, the SPLM-10 emphasized that the lack of sufficient resources allocated to these institutions could undermine the credibility of the electoral process and ultimately the peace agreement in place.
The SPLM-10 leadership urged the Ministry of Finance and Planning to promptly present the targeted Supplementary Budget to Parliament for approval, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness in the allocation of resources for pre-election activities.
In response to the concerns raised, the First Deputy Speaker of the National Legislative Assembly, TALA, pledged to address the issue and ensure that the necessary funds are allocated appropriately to support a smooth electoral process.
