President Salva Kiir Unveils Ambitious Rice Farming Project in Bor, Jonglei State
President Salva Kiir Mayardit held a meeting with Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk on Friday to discuss an exciting new project in Jonglei State.
The project involves the establishment of a pilot rice farm at the prestigious Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology in Bor. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the university and the South Korean Engineering contingent within UNMISS.
The main objective of this project is to introduce advanced farming technology in the region, with a specific focus on diversifying agricultural production by incorporating rice alongside the traditional crop of sorghum. By implementing modern farming techniques, the hope is to enhance food security and boost the overall agricultural sector in Jonglei State.
The meeting between President Kiir and Advisor Kuol signifies the government’s commitment to promoting innovation and sustainable development in the agricultural sector. Both leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the project and emphasized the potential benefits it could bring to the local community.
The collaboration with the South Korean Engineering contingent within UNMISS is particularly significant, as it brings together expertise from both South Sudan and South Korea.
The pilot rice farm at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology will serve as a testing ground for these innovative techniques. If successful, the project could pave the way for the adoption of similar methods in other parts of Jonglei State, as well as across the country.
As this exciting project takes shape, all eyes will be on Jonglei State, eagerly anticipating the positive impact it will have on the agricultural landscape.
