Security Report Highlights Calm Conditions Amidst Isolated Incidents in South Sudan
In a media statement released today, Colonel John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson for the South Sudan National Police Service, reassured the public of a generally calm security environment across the nation over the past 48 hours. The situation remains stable across the country’s 10 states and 3 administrative areas, with only a few isolated incidents reported primarily in Central Equatoria and Eastern Equatoria.
Central Equatoria experienced a series of unfortunate events on December 24, 2024:
Stabbing Incident: Around 7:00 PM, a 21-year-old male employee of the National Security Service was stabbed in the Referendum residential area. He was transported to a hospital for treatment but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The Western Police Division in Munuki has initiated an investigation, and the suspected assailant has been apprehended.
Death of Foreign National: Shortly after, at 8:00 PM, a 36-year-old Ugandan national was found deceased at his workplace in the Nyakuron residential area. The Mauna Police Division is investigating this case, with the body sent to a mortuary for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Youth Dispute: Later that evening, a conflict between three youths in the Mangatein area led to injuries for both a 15-year-old boy and a 35-year-old man. The Western Police Division is pursuing this case, and one suspect is currently in custody.
Inmate Found Dead: On December 25, at 6:00 AM, an inmate was discovered dead in prison. The Northern Police Division has opened a case, and the body has been transferred to the military mortuary for further examination.

In Eastern Equatoria on December 25, around 4:00 PM, a 27-year-old man was shot dead by unknown assailants in Ihemehejek. Local police are diligently tracking the attackers.
During the holiday celebrations, traffic police reported 47 minor traffic violations, with no fatalities during the past 48-hour period.
