The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance has expressed its appreciation for the recent decision made by H.E. the President of the Republic of South Sudan to release several senior members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO). This move is seen as a crucial step toward safeguarding the fragile peace agreement in the country.

“We call upon the president to take further actions to de-escalate the situation and create a conducive environment for peaceful solutions,” said Dabek Mabior Arok, Deputy Chairperson of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance. He reiterated the necessity for collaborative efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
The release of the SPLM-IO leaders potentially paves the way for renewed discussions between warring factions and serves as an opportunity to enhance confidence-building measures within the rapidly evolving political landscape of South Sudan. The Alliance remains optimistic about the prospect of a united approach to resolving the nations’ challenges through dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders.
