South Sudan Civil Society Alliance Calls for Transparent and Timely General Election in December 2024

In a recent statement released by Mr. Dabek Mabior Arok, Acting Chairperson of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA), the organization has outlined its position on the upcoming general election scheduled to take place in December 2024.
Mr. Arok emphasized the importance of adhering to the provisions of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) and the agreed-upon roadmap for the election process.
“We appreciate the efforts of all parties to the 2018 peace agreement in working towards a peaceful and democratic transition in South Sudan. As the people eagerly await the opportunity to participate in a general election, we urge the revitalized government of national unity to prioritize the following actions,” stated Mr. Arok.
The SSCSA is calling for the timely establishment of key institutions such as the National Election Commission (NEC), Political Parties Council (PPC), and National Constitution Review Commission (NCRC) to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
Furthermore, the organization is urging all political parties to expedite their registration processes to facilitate widespread civic education initiatives across the country, enabling citizens to make informed decisions during the election.
“We stand firm in our commitment to promoting civic awareness and encouraging active participation in the democratic process. The forthcoming general election represents a historic opportunity for the people of South Sudan to shape their future through peaceful and inclusive elections,” added Mr. Arok.
The SSCSA also called upon the regional and international community to respect the sovereignty of South Sudan and support the country in conducting a free, fair, and credible election that reflects the will of the people.
With the December 2024 general election fast approaching, the SSCSA remains dedicated to ensuring that the democratic rights of South Sudanese citizens are upheld and that the electoral process is conducted transparently and inclusively.
