South Sudan Political Leaders Urged to Set Aside Personal Differences for Successful Transitional Process
In a recent statement, Mr. Edmund Yakani, the Executive Director of CEPO, has expressed concerns about the current political climate in South Sudan, highlighting the lack of readiness among political leaders to collaborate effectively for the political transitional process. According to Yakani, personal grievances and political instabilities are hindering progress towards a successful transition.
Yakani emphasized, “The political attitudes of our leaders are not conducive to achieving a smooth political transitional process. It is evident that there is a long road ahead before we can witness tangible progress towards stability.”
Addressing the challenges surrounding the Tumaiani peace talks, Yakani pointed out, “The misinterpretations and rigid stances taken by our political leaders reveal a reluctance to prioritize the national interest over personal agendas. This approach is detrimental to realizing genuine political transformation.”
In light of these observations, CEPO is calling on the top political leadership of South Sudan to come together and make decisive decisions that prioritize the well-being of the citizens and pave the way for a transition from violence to peace. Yakani emphasized the importance of setting aside personal interests in favor of national unity and progress.
As South Sudan navigates its path towards stability, it is imperative for political leaders to demonstrate a willingness to cooperate and put the needs of the country above individual differences. The call for genuine political pathways underscores the urgency of fostering a collaborative and inclusive approach to ensure a successful transition for the nation.
