South Sudan Seeks Inspiration from China’s Rural Revitalization Efforts
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), has emphasized the potential benefits for South Sudan in adopting strategies utilized by China to revitalize its rural sectors. Yakani’s remarks follow a series of learning trips organized by the Chinese embassy in South Sudan, which allowed various South Sudanese experts to explore notable towns across China.
During his recent visit, Yakani was struck by the practical and transformative approach employed by the Chinese government in transitioning its rural regions into vibrant urban societies. “This experience has been incredibly inspiring and motivating,” he stated, while highlighting the importance of engaging local populations in the revitalization process.
Yakani commended the Chinese government’s efforts to foster people-to-people exchanges, noting that the collaboration between China and Africa offers rich opportunities for skill and knowledge sharing related to human growth and societal development. He urged the Chinese government to expand these learning initiatives, enabling more African experts to acquire essential skills in rural revitalization and other areas that directly impact human development.
“The ongoing program for learning opportunities is crucial,” Yakani asserted. “It not only equips African experts with firsthand knowledge but also creates a direct line of communication that cuts through potentially biased narratives about China’s experiences.”
CEPO is advocating for a sustained commitment from the Chinese government to offer African professionals the chance to gain practical insights into successful development strategies. “By understanding China’s journey from rural to urban revitalization through direct experiences, we can forge a more authentic and informed path for our own societal advancement,” Yakani concluded.
