In a landmark decision for South Sudan, Augustino Maduot, the President of the South Sudan Football Association, has been elected as the new President of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA). His appointment comes on the heels of former CECAFA President Wallace Karia’s ascension to the CAF Council by acclamation.

This historic election marks a significant milestone for South Sudan, as it becomes the first time the nation will hold the prestigious leadership position within CECAFA, which oversees the football governance of eleven East African nations.

Maduot’s election is expected to enhance South Sudan’s presence in the African football landscape, promoting not just the development of the sport within the country but also strengthening diplomatic relations through football in the wider region.

Football stakeholders and enthusiasts anticipate that Maduot will drive initiatives to elevate the standard of the game across the CECAFA region, fostering talent development and encouraging collaboration among its member associations.

As the new leader of CECAFA, Maduot is poised to usher in a new era for East African football and place South Sudan at the forefront of regional sporting endeavors.
