SPLM-IO Withdraws from Tumaini Initiative for South Sudan: Calls for Reconciliation and Continued Mediation
In a significant development, the SPLM IO has announced its withdrawal from the Tumaini Initiative for South Sudan. Dabek Mabior Arok, Deputy Chairperson and Member of the CTSAMVM Board, shared his perspective on this decision and called for reconciliation among all parties involved in the peace process.
Expressing his views, Arok first welcomed the signing of the 8 Protocol between the government of South Sudan and emphasized the importance of the mediation team’s efforts in achieving lasting peace in the region. He stressed the need for recognition of the R-ARCSS (Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan) as the foundation for peace in South Sudan.
Arok highlighted that peace is a long-term process and suggested that the Tumaini Initiative should complement and strengthen the R-ARCSS rather than stand alone as an agreement. He called upon the chief mediator to address the concerns raised by the SPLM IO and work towards reconciling the differing views of the various parties involved in the peace talks.
The South Sudan Civil Society Alliances, represented by Arok, expressed their belief that the Tumaini Initiative has the potential to bring lasting peace to the people of South Sudan. They urged the mediation team to continue their conciliatory efforts with all parties involved in the peace process for the greater benefit of peace and stability in the region.
As tensions rise following the SPLM IO’s withdrawal, Arok’s appeal for reconciliation and continued mediation underscores the importance of dialogue and cooperation in achieving sustainable peace in South Sudan. The future of the peace process remains uncertain, but efforts to bridge differences and find common ground are crucial in moving towards a peaceful and prosperous South Sudan.
