Students at the University of Bahr El Ghazal Stage Protest Over Lack of Food
The students at the University of Bahr El Ghazal in Wau took to the streets in protest over the lack of food that was previously provided by Pawak Company. The protest comes after Pawak Company ceased delivering food to the university on April 24, citing the government’s failure to settle its outstanding payments for the food supplied to students in the hostels.
Expressing their frustration, student leader Maluak Mayom Gak, a third-year student at the college of education, stated, “We are protesting until the government pays the Pawak company. If they don’t, our protest will continue. It is not a violent protest, but the situation may escalate as students remain on the streets. We hold the government responsible for this crisis, not the company. Lectures may come to a halt due to the lack of food.”
Another student, Paska, from the college of public health, emphasized the simple demand of the students. “We only need food, and we urge the government to settle their dues with Pawak Company to resume the supply of food. If the government does not act, we will have no choice but to stop our protest.”
The students’ peaceful demonstration sheds light on the urgency of the situation and underscores the critical need for immediate action to ensure the welfare of the students at the University of Bahr El Ghazal.
