Teachers in NBGS-Aweil Petition for Reopening of Schools Amid Salary Deductions
Teachers in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGS) of Aweil have raised concerns regarding the reopening of schools amidst ongoing salary deductions.
The teachers are demanding the return of 214,000,000 SSP (Two hundred and fourteen million South Sudanese Pounds) that was deducted from their salaries in July 2023.
The issues raised by the teachers include the significant salary cuts, the need to avoid further illegal deductions, and the restoration of salaries that were deducted between 2021 and 2023. Additionally, the teachers have reported incidents of torture and harassment that occurred on January 12, 2024, without receiving proper medical treatment for their injuries. They also accuse Police Commissioner Philip Madut Tong and Finance Minister Andrew Lual Buola of interfering in their case.
In light of these grievances, the teachers are calling for the schools to remain closed until their concerns are addressed and their salaries are restored. The petition has been submitted to Hon Awut Deng Achuil, the Minister of General Education & Instructions for further action.
The teachers hope that their petition will lead to a resolution of their issues and ensure a fair and just working environment for all educators in NBGS-Aweil.
