Terekeka Celebrates Culture and Leadership: Maj. Gen. Clement Wani Konga and Ten Visionaries Honored with 2025 Community Champion Award

In a vibrant display of unity and cultural pride, the second Mundari Cultural Festival took place in Terekeka on January 11, 2025, drawing community members from far and wide under the empowering theme “Our Culture, Our Strength!” The highlight of the festival was the presentation of the prestigious Community Champion Award by the Terekeka County Youth Association to Maj. General Clement Wani Konga and ten notable figures from the Mundari Community, recognizing their unparalleled contributions to the region’s advancement.

Honorees of the Year 2025: Celebrating Community Champions

Maj. Gen. Clement Wani Konga led the honorees, a stalwart figure in South Sudan’s history and the inaugural commissioner of Terekeka County. Esteemed for his pivotal role in establishing local defense initiatives and mediating peace, Konga’s legacy as a community leader continues to inspire the next generation. Revered by his peers and affectionately known as ‘Black Fox,’ he has unified the Equatoria community and instilled a sense of pride that transcends age.

Gen. Zacharia Legge, recognized for his valiant military leadership, cementing his reputation as a formidable force in the Commando operations while fostering bravery among the youth.

Dr. Alex Bolek, who has revolutionized education and healthcare in Mundari, notably through the establishment of a primary school and medical center that serve as crucial resources for local families.

Dr. Makoy Samuel, an advocate for public health, working tirelessly to combat Guinea Worm Disease and elevate living standards through health initiatives spearheaded by esteemed organizations.

Mr. Bush Buse, a dedicated peace advocate and community mobilizer whose initiatives in sports and education empower the youth and preserve cultural heritage.

Asunta Paul, an influential leader promoting women’s empowerment through both economic initiatives and advocacy for community resource development.

Chief Benensio Modi Wani and Chief Raimondo Loku Tongun, both venerable figures in the Mundari community recognized for their wisdom, stability, and dedication to fairness and unity.

Gemeiza Kakule Kwajok, who is fostering aspirations among young girls through her educational initiatives, inspiring the next generation of female leaders.

Hon. John Bero, the driving force behind the festival’s success, known for his devoted engagement and active mobilization of community resources.
