The sports materials were handed over in order to promote positive social norms and gender equality, encouraging the girls to achieve their potential.

“Rugby is more than just a sport in South Sudan. It promotes discipline, hard work, unity, and challenges stereotypes about girls in sports,” said an official.

The Chairperson of Youth and Sports welcomed the developmental projects, emphasizing the importance of motivating the youth through sports.

The president of Tag Rugby Trust South Sudan highlighted the need to embrace all types of sports in the country and grow grassroots rugby. The goal is to develop the talents of young players and take South Sudan to an international level.

The support from UNFPA includes jerseys, playing boots, rugby balls, and other necessary attire to keep the girls engaged in sports and away from negative activities.

Tag Rugby Trust South Sudan, a national non-governmental organization, aims to promote social change through education and sports.

“Sport has the power to change the world,” said a UNFPA Communication Specialist, emphasizing the importance of sports in uniting people and creating peace.

Overall, the support from UNFPA is helping to empower women and girls in sports in South Sudan.
