UNFPA Holds 4th Semi-Annual Country Programme Review Meeting in Juba to Assess Progress in 2024 Workplans

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in collaboration with partners, conducted its 4th semi-annual country programme review meeting to evaluate the progress towards implementing the 2024 workplans in South Sudan. The meeting held in Juba aimed to assess achievements, identify challenges, and chart the way forward for continued development efforts in the country.

Addressing the attendees at the meeting, the Guest of honor, Mr. Mario Velvour Gunda, Director General for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, commended the support of the youth in South Sudan. He urged partners to prioritize assistance for those in dire need and ensure that resources are directed towards addressing critical issues affecting the population.

Speaking on behalf of UNFPA South Sudan, the Deputy Country Representative, Ms. Sarah Masale, highlighted the significant challenge faced by the organization in terms of funding. She emphasized the vital role of global donors in supporting UNFPA’s initiatives and expressed the commitment of the organization to continue backing the development agenda of South Sudan. Ms. Masale announced the remarkable achievement of the UNFPA South Sudan country office being recognized as the best performer in Eastern and Southern Africa, attributing the success to the dedicated efforts of the team.

On the healthcare front, Rev. Janet Michael, Director General for Nursing and Midwives at the National Ministry of Health, provided insights into the field fundings during their recent assessments. Rev. Michael underscored the challenges confronted by the health sector and called on partners to sustain their collaboration and support to address these pressing issues. She acknowledged the efforts made thus far while emphasizing the importance of continued dedication and resource allocation to improve healthcare services across the nation.

The 4th semi-annual country programme review meeting served as a platform for reflection, collaboration, and strategic planning to advance development goals in South Sudan.
