Vice President Taban Deng Gai Engages with Nuer Youth Union to Address Youth Concerns

In a significant development on Tuesday in Juba, 22/2024, Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chairperson of the infrastructure cluster, H.E Gen. Taban Deng Gai, convened a meeting with the Nuer Youth Union, led by Mr. Both Kuol Nyang, Chairperson, and his delegation. The primary objective of the gathering was to discuss and tackle the critical issues affecting the youth population in the country.

Chief among the topics at the forefront of the discussion was the escalating problem of unemployment plaguing the youth. Mr. Kuol Nyang emphasized the challenges faced by many educated young individuals who continue to struggle to secure jobs, leading to widespread frustration and despondency. Additionally, the meeting delved into strategies for enhancing youth empowerment initiatives.

The dire situation of flooding in the greater Upper Nile region also came under scrutiny during the deliberations. Expressing deep concern for the citizens in the affected areas, Mr. Kuol Nyang highlighted the devastating impact on the counties of Fan-Gak, Ayod, Duk, Twi East, Panyijar, Pigi, and the entirety of Unity State.

Assuring swift action, the vice president affirmed that the infrastructure cluster is diligently collaborating with local authorities to alleviate the repercussions of the floods. He further committed the government’s support in partnership with UN agencies to deliver aid and relief to the communities grappling with the aftermath of the natural disaster.

In a bid to empower the youth further, the Vice President urged them to explore opportunities in the private sector and local businesses, recognizing that governmental employment alone can only cater to a limited portion of the population.
