Yakani Commends Improvements at Juba International Airport, Calls for Further Enhancements

In a significant address today, Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), expressed his commendations for recent improvements at Juba International Airport, highlighting a noticeable reduction in crowding.

Yakani conveyed his appreciation to the airport’s leadership, including the Director of Juba International Airport, the police chief at the facility, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Director of National Security. He noted that the airport’s congestion during peak morning hours had previously failed to represent the desired image of the Republic of South Sudan.

“I am impressed to see Juba International Airport less crowded compared to previous years. This improvement signifies progress towards meeting international standards,” Yakani stated. He extended special praise to the police force present at the airport for their role in fostering this change.

However, the Executive Director urged further enhancements, particularly regarding the professional appearance of the airport staff. “The dressing code of our police and all personnel within Juba International Airport must be taken seriously. First impressions matter, especially for visitors arriving in our country,” he emphasized.

Yakani also called for a concerted effort towards the beautification and decoration of the airport, appealing directly to the Vice President for Infrastructure. He reiterated the importance of creating a welcoming atmosphere for both tourists and locals alike.

The presence of aggressive behavior among some staff members, especially in the police and national security sectors, was another concern Yakani addressed. He appreciated the introduction of trained police officers from Rwanda, which he said has already had a positive impact on the airport’s customer service.

“Improvements in the handling of luggage are critical. We need to ensure that bags are treated with care, as organized luggage delivery reflects our country’s commitment to international standards of service,” he asserted.

Yakani concluded his address with a recommendation to enhance lighting and power availability at the airport, noting that such measures would significantly improve the airport’s overall image and functionality. He expressed his hope that the leadership would heed these suggestions, further establishing Juba International Airport as a gateway to the world for South Sudan.

As the youngest nation on the globe, South Sudan’s leaders have been called to invest in infrastructures such as the airport, ensuring that it reflects the dignity and potential of the country.
