The conference, held under the theme of unity and peace for the development of the Burekiwe community, attracted more than hundreds of community members on Thursday morning.
During the three-day conference, discussions focused on the development needs, agriculture, land, health, and challenges faced by the two counties of Yambio and Nzara.
The Governor of Western Equatoria state, Hon. Alfred Futuyo, emphasized the importance of the community gathering, stating, “We need to discuss and evaluate what went well and what went wrong. We also need to get to know each other better, face to face.”
Futuyo applauded the leaders representing their counties, urging them to understand the impact of their actions on the Boma, Payam, and county.
“All of us should work together as people of this state and payam,” he added.
Hon. Elia Richard Box, the Chairperson of the group, emphasized that the Greater Burekiwe community is not about division, segregation, or hatred, especially among politicians.
“To unite, love one another, and work together, we can rely on church leaders, as they are ambassadors of peace,” Box reaffirmed.
The Mayor of Yambio Town Municipality, Hon. John Singira, expressed concern about the politicians who confuse the community.
“As sons and daughters of Greater Burekiwe, we appreciate this. We need to come together and find common ground,” Singira stated
The three-day conference, which addressed the development needs, agriculture, land, health, and challenges facing Yambio and Nzara, was launched in December 2022 and celebrated on January 8th, 2024.
In attendance were notable figures such as Governor Alfred Futuyo Karaba, Deputy Governor Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime, Archbishop Dr. Samuel Enosa Peni of ECSS, Mayor John Singira, and the sons and daughters of Greater Burekiwe.
