A two-day experience-sharing conference on youth participation in constitution-making and elections has commenced in Juba. The event, organized under the theme “Shaping a Bright Future through People-Centered Constitution Making and Peaceful Elections,” is being spearheaded by the National Constitution Review Commission, South Sudan National Youth Union, South Sudan Youth Constitution Working Group, and Pax South Sudan.
During his opening remarks, the National Minister of Federal Affairs, Honorable Lasuba Wongo, emphasized the importance of youths actively engaging in decision-making processes for the permanent constitution of the country. Minister Wongo highlighted that the Ministry of Federal Affairs is committed to ensuring the adoption of a federal system of governance in South Sudan to promote peace and unity among the populace, empowering them to know and assert their rights.
Minister Wongo underscored that the youth are the present and future leaders at all levels of government and urged them to come together in unity to work towards lasting peace across communities in South Sudan. The two-day conference has brought together youths from all ten states and three administrative areas to foster a common understanding of constitution-making and the electoral process in South Sudan.
The conference seeks to empower young people with the knowledge and skills needed to actively contribute to the shaping of the country’s future through inclusive and participatory governance practices.
