South Sudan Prepared to Shine at Paris 2024 Olympics

In an exciting development for sports fans in South Sudan, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, the Olympic Federation, and the South Sudan Basketball Federation have announced their readiness to compete in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris in July 2024.

Director General of the National Ministry of Youth and Sports, Edward Setimon, expressed determination despite the challenges, stating, “We are fully committed to ensuring our team’s participation in the Paris Olympics.”

The South Sudan team will showcase their talents in various sports disciplines, including Taekwondo, athletics, and boxing, during the event scheduled to take place in Paris, Germany, from 29th July to 28th August 2024.

President of the South Sudan Olympic Committee, Eng Juma Stephen Lugga, confirmed that the committee is diligently working on submitting the names of the fifteen team members and technical staff to the German embassy for approval. Despite the March 2024 submission deadline passing, efforts are being made to secure their participation.

“We are determined to represent South Sudan on the international stage,” remarked Juma, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Olympic Committee, and the Basketball Federation in ensuring a successful representation of the country in Paris.

Secretary-General of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, Dr. Ramadan Chan Aru, highlighted the significant support received from the government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, expressing optimism about the progress made in finalizing the necessary preparations for both the basketball and Olympic teams.

With a united front and unwavering determination, South Sudanese athletes are eager to make their mark at the prestigious Paris 2024 Olympics, showcasing their talent and representing their nation on the global sporting platform.
