Citizens Express Concerns Over December 2024 Election Preparations

By Edmund Yakani,

In a recent development, citizens have voiced their apprehensions regarding the upcoming December 2024 elections in the country. As a civil society organization, CEPO has been entrusted with the responsibility to amplify these concerns and convey them to the political leadership.

Citizens have raised critical questions regarding the feasibility of holding the election as scheduled, considering the lack of visible preparations and the absence of a conducive environment for the electoral process. Despite promises made by national authorities and declarations from the National Election Commission, citizens have observed repeated delays and unfulfilled plans related to voter registration.

Expressing dwindling trust and confidence in the possibility of conducting the elections on time, citizens call upon political leaders to provide accurate and transparent information about the status and potential adjustments to the election timeline. The pressing concerns center around the limited time left for adequate preparations, exacerbated by weather conditions and inadequate infrastructure across different levels of governance.

With doubts looming over the practicality of holding the election by December 2024, citizens implore political leaders to engage in open dialogue and ensure timely communication on any decisions that may impact the electoral process. As a civil society activist, I urge leaders to address the citizens’ voices and concerns promptly, fostering a climate of constructive engagement and genuine resolution of political differences.
