President Salva Kiir and Chinese President Xi Jinping Elevate Bilateral Relations to Strategic Partnership

President Salva Kiir of South Sudan and his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping, came together on Friday following the conclusion of the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The two leaders jointly announced the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

During the summit, Xi emphasized that fostering substantive and dynamic China-South Sudan relations aligns with the common expectations and long-term interests of both nations. He expressed China’s willingness to share development experiences and opportunities with South Sudan, continuing to implement projects in education, technology, and other crucial areas. Additionally, Xi highlighted plans to strengthen cooperation in sectors such as petroleum, mining, and agriculture, aiming to assist South Sudan in diversifying its economy.

Xi further underscored China’s support for South Sudan in navigating its political transition process steadily while opposing external interference in the nation’s internal affairs. He expressed optimism that South Sudan would achieve lasting peace and development in the near future.
