Commissioner Tete Declares War on Illegal Alcohol Sales in Juba County
In a decisive move to curb the rampant sale of illegal alcohol, Juba County Commissioner Emmanuel Tete has pledged to eradicate the distribution of unauthorized spirits, specifically targeting the notorious “gin.”
During a press conference held on Friday, Commissioner Tete urged local security forces to rigorously implement a recently enacted government order that prohibits the sale of certain alcoholic beverages, including various brands of gin. He made it clear that any trader found in violation of this ban would face severe repercussions, including the revocation of their business license and mandatory closures of their establishments.
“We expect that within a week, Juba will be free of illegal alcohol, particularly those classified as gins,” declared Commissioner Tete, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The Commissioner warned that while enforcement is crucial, security personnel must act within their authority. He reminded them to focus exclusively on seizing the alcohol explicitly outlined in the governor’s order and to avoid any potential overreach that could undermine the law’s intent.
The list of banned alcoholic beverages prominently features Royal Gin, Rhino Waragi, Star Gin, and Boss Gin, while allowing for the sale of beer, wine, and non-alcoholic Bavaria products.
The responsibility of enforcing this order lies with a coalition of key officials, including the State Assistant Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, the Director of the National Security Service for Central Equatoria, the Commissioner of Juba County, and the Mayor of Juba City Council.
As Commissioner Tete’s initiative unfolds, local residents await to see the impact of this crackdown on illegal alcohol sales in their communities, hoping for a safer environment free from the dangers of unregulated spirits.
