Hon. Elia Richard Box, the former Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), the ruling party in South Sudan.

Speaking to the media on Friday in Yambio, Box addressed concerns regarding his loyalty to the SPLM. He stated, “I remain a committed member of the SPLM, regardless of the situation. One cannot serve two masters. To those questioning my loyalty or mislabeling others, I want to be clear: my dedication to the SPLM is steadfast.”

Reflecting on the party’s legacy, Box said, “For 21 years, the SPLM has been at the forefront of South Sudan’s struggle. While there are internal issues that need addressing, it is essential that all 64 tribes of South Sudan live in mutual love and respect.”

Box also urged party members to promote comradeship, avoid distrust, and prioritize peace, unity, and love within the SPLM. He stressed the importance of strengthening the party’s internal regulations to ensure continued cohesion.

Despite being removed from his position as Deputy Governor, Box emphasized that his loyalty to the SPLM remains unshaken. “My removal is part of the political process, and I accept it with humility. I support the newly appointed Deputy Governor and pledge to work together in promoting unity within the government,” he said.

Additionally, Hon. Box expressed gratitude to the President of South Sudan for entrusting him with the role of SPLM Chairman for Western Equatoria State over the past four months. “I would like to thank the President for the trust he placed in me to lead as the Chairman of SPLM in Western Equatoria State. I accept my removal as part of the routine within our party and look forward to continuing to serve the SPLM in any capacity.”

Box concluded by appealing to civilians to steer clear of disruptive activities and to remain calm, assuring the people of Western Equatoria State of the need for peace and stability.
