Growing Call for Dialogue in South Sudan to Address Democratic Transition Challenges
According to a press released dated 27th February 2024 and signed by Dr. Gai Chol Paul, Chairman of the Coalition of Opposition Parties (COOP), there has been a notable shift towards a growing call for dialogue among the signatories of the revitalized peace agreement in South Sudan. The position papers released by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-10) and the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) have emphasized the urgent need for meaningful dialogue to tackle the persistent challenges hindering the democratic transition process.
It is evident that the allocated time for the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (RARCSS) has elapsed, underscoring the necessity for a fresh approach that prioritizes the voices and concerns of the people who continue to suffer from the devastating impact of conflict and instability in South Sudan.
The COOP believes that a genuine dialogue between the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) and the people affected by their governance failures is crucial for fostering understanding, reconciliation, and progress in the nation. The voices of those who have endured under the leadership of the RTGONU must be heard and given a platform for constructive engagement.
By creating an inclusive dialogue space where both the RTGoNU and the people can openly communicate and address concerns, there is an opportunity for meaningful change and collaboration towards a better future for all citizens of South Sudan.
The COOP extends an invitation to all those passionate about advocating for an inclusive dialogue to join them in pushing for this important initiative. They encourage individuals and organizations to reach out privately to discuss how they can work together to facilitate a productive and impactful dialogue between the RTGoNU and the people they serve.
Together, through inclusive dialogue, the COOP believes that South Sudan can strive towards building a more transparent, accountable, and responsive governance system that genuinely represents the interests and needs of its people.
