INTREPID South Sudan Calls for Regulation of Commercial Vehicles to Reduce Accidents
The Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan, Mr. Bol Deng Bol, has urged the Jonglei traffic police to step up their efforts in regulating commercial vehicles in order to reduce accidents stemming from negligence. This plea comes in the wake of a tragic incident involving a Trinity Bus company that caught fire this week between Bor and Juba.
Mr. Bol expressed his sympathies for the passengers affected by the incident, extending well wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured individuals and hoping for eventual recovery for those who lost their properties. While acknowledging the benefits brought about by the road infrastructure, he also highlighted the negative aspects, particularly the negligence exhibited by some drivers that can lead to dangerous incidents such as the one witnessed this week.
He emphasized the need for stringent monitoring and implementation of traffic laws, especially for commercial vehicles, to prevent such tragedies.
The lack of oversight from the traffic police has been identified as a significant factor contributing to such incidents, coupled with the negligent behavior of some commercial vehicle operators, including the use of old or poorly maintained vehicles.
Mr. Bol called on the traffic police and other government entities to take responsibility and ensure compliance with regulations by commercial vehicles.
The safety of the public is of utmost importance, and measures must be put in place to enforce adherence to these regulations, with violators facing appropriate consequences.
By implementing proper regulations and ensuring effective management, the well-constructed road can be more beneficial to its users and the citizens residing along its path.
INTREPID South Sudan’s appeal serves as a reminder of the crucial role that enforcement of traffic laws plays in safeguarding lives and preventing avoidable accidents on the roads.
