MTN MoMo Fintech is addressing public concerns over limited cash availability at some agent outlets, assuring customers that solutions are in the works while simultaneously urging a broader embrace of digital payment systems.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, MTN MoMo acknowledged that some users have encountered difficulties withdrawing cash from certain agents. The company stated it is actively collaborating with banks and partners to implement interoperable digital payment solutions to alleviate the issue.

“We are working with all banks and partners to create interoperable digital payment solutions,” the statement read. “This includes MoMo Pay, international remittances, school fees payment, and bank push-and-pull services.”

Francis Matseketsa, CEO of MTN MoMo Fintech, reiterated the company’s dedication to fostering financial inclusion through expanded access to digital financial services. He underscored the significance of international remittances and encouraged merchants to adopt mobile money as a practical alternative to cash.

Addressing further customer complaints, Hussein Samanya, Senior Manager at MTN MoMo, condemned the illegal practice of agents levying unauthorized withdrawal fees. He mentioned that customers were notified via SMS last week and encouraged them to report any agents violating company policy.

The fintech service is also promoting the use of MoMo for daily transactions, including purchasing goods, paying for services, sending and receiving money domestically and internationally, and paying school fees. Currently, over 30 schools across South Sudan accept MoMo payments.

While acknowledging that South Sudan is in the early stages of digital payment adoption, MTN MoMo stressed that reducing reliance on cash is vital for long-term financial stability and economic growth.

“Creating a cashless society is a journey which cannot be completed overnight,” the company stated. “We believe the journey has started and we all need to embrace it.”
