The Central Equatoria State (CES) Security Committee has issued a directive compelling cattle herders from Jonglei State, currently grazing in parts of Central Equatoria, to return peacefully to their places of origin. This action is in line with a presidential order issued in 2017.

Speaking on Tuesday, Hon. Leone Abe Brown, the State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies, emphasized the committee’s call for compliance from the armed cattle herders. He referenced the resolutions recently agreed upon at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting focused on finding lasting solutions to cattle migration and associated violence.

“We recognize that both livestock and crops are essential to our livelihoods, but we must not allow them to become sources of confusion and conflict,” stated Hon. Abe. “I appeal to my fellow citizens, the cattle herders, to return peacefully. I also urge our farming community to establish clear pathways to facilitate their return to their home areas.”

The meeting, which was chaired by H.E. Paulino Lukudu Obede, the State Deputy Governor, covered a range of pressing security concerns. These included the issue of prostitution within certain areas of Juba City, as well as efforts to tackle the ongoing gang activities perpetrated by groups known as “nigas” in some communities.

In a stern warning, Hon. Abe addressed those who permit their shops or buildings to be used for prostitution, instructing them to cease such activities immediately. He indicated that the government would take strong action against those who fail to comply.
