The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) has issued a strong condemnation of the ongoing atrocities committed against South Sudanese civilians by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in the region of Wad Medina. Acting Chairperson Debak Mabior Arok emphasized the urgent need for international attention and action in light of escalating violence, particularly as clashes continue in Khartoum, posing a threat to stability and security across South Sudan.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the SSCSA expressed grave concerns over the persistent fighting, which they warn could lead to increased violence, loss of lives, and widespread insecurity for South Sudanese citizens. Arok highlighted that the actions of the SAF—including murder, rampant attacks, and targeted killings—constitute serious human rights violations and undermine the integrity of Sudan’s national military.

“The brutality exhibited by the SAF against innocent civilians is unacceptable and should not go unchecked,” Arok stated. “We stand in solidarity with those affected and demand accountability.”

In light of these urgent developments, the SSCSA has made several calls to action:

International Accountability: The alliance urges the United Nations, the African Union, and IGAD (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) to take decisive action against the Sudan Armed Forces for their targeted attacks on civilians.

Government Investigation: They demand that the government of South Sudan conduct a transparent investigation into the reported incidents and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

Protection of Rights: The organization calls on the South Sudanese government to safeguard the rights and dignity of its citizens, ensuring their protection amidst ongoing hostilities.

Rehabilitation and Reintegration: Lastly, the SSCSA insists on the necessity for measures that will facilitate the safe return and rehabilitation of displaced South Sudanese citizens to their original homes.

As the situation continues to evolve, the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance remains committed to advocating for justice and the protection of human rights in the region. They reaffirm their stance against any form of violence and urge all stakeholders to prioritize the welfare and safety of South Sudanese citizens.
